Linchuan
临川 is now a district of Fuzhou (
抚州), Jiangxi, but historically it is a household name in Chinese literature: birthplace of Ming playwright
汤显祖 (Tang Xianzu, 1550-1616), Northern Song reformer
王安石 (Wang Anshi), and lyricist
晏殊 (Yan Shu). The 'Linchuan school' (
临川派) refers to Tang Xianzu's drama school centered on emotion (
情) over moral codes.
