An older, descriptive name for the
古琴 (guqin) — the plucked silk-stringed zither of Chinese literati. Tradition says it originally had five strings and that Zhou kings Wen and Wu each added one, making seven. UNESCO inscribed guqin music on the list of Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity in 2003.
