'211' = Project 211 (launched 1995): aim to build ~100 key universities for the 21st century. The stricter tier is 985 (39 elite universities). Both labels were technically subsumed into 2017's 双一流 framework but are still the default shorthand in HR filters and matchmaking ads.

mistakes

The digits are read individually as èr-yāo-yāo (not 'two hundred and eleven'). 1 is typically read yāo in sequences to avoid confusion with 7 qī.
