Short for 麦克唐纳·道格拉斯. In the 1980s-90s, Shanghai Aviation 上海航空 co-produced MD-82 and MD-90 jets with McDonnell Douglas - China's first foray into commercial jet manufacturing, a precursor to today's COMAC 中国商飞.
