usage
鬼节 is the everyday name; the formal name is 中元节, and Buddhists call it 盂兰盆节. In older usage 清明节 and the 1st day of the 10th lunar month were counted as ghost festivals too.
culture
The whole 7th lunar month is 鬼月 (Ghost Month), when the spirits of the dead are believed to wander. Many families avoid weddings and moving house until it is over.
