língshù

Meanings

  1. 1 the leftover / fractional part of a number (the part dropped when rounding down)
  2. 2 odd amount
  3. 3 small change

Examples

Zǒnggòng yībǎi líng sān kuài, língshù wǒ jiù bù shōu le.
It comes to 103 yuan total — I won't bother with the change.
Bǎ língshù sìshě-wǔrù dào zhěngshù.
Round the fractional part to the nearest whole number.

Tips

usage
Two everyday senses: (1) the loose change beyond a round amount — 零数算了 ('let's call it a round number, forget the change'); (2) in arithmetic / accounting, the fractional remainder when rounding. Don't confuse with 零钱 (língqián, pocket-change coins/bills) which is the physical money, not the leftover amount.
