usage
Colloquial. Note 长 here is zhǎng ('to grow / increase'), not cháng ('long') — 长脸 = 'to grow [someone's] face', i.e. enlarge their honor. Opposite is 丢脸 (diūliǎn, to lose face).
mistakes
Don't confuse with cháng liǎn (长脸) meaning literally 'long face'. Same characters, different reading.
