Westerners know him as Koxinga, a Dutch spelling of the Hokkien pronunciation of 国姓爷, 'Lord of the Imperial Surname': a Ming prince who claimed the throne gave him the royal surname 朱.
history
He was born in Hirado, Japan, to the merchant and pirate 郑芝龙; the family home was 南安 in Fujian. When his father went over to the Qing, he fought on for the Ming from 厦门. After failing to take 南京 in 1659 he crossed to Taiwan, forced the Dutch to surrender in 1662 and died a few months later.
