誉

Speech radical at the bottom — depicts a mouth with a tongue above, the standard marker for anything verbal. Carries the meaning of 誉 directly: praise, honour, reputation are all things said about someone. Sits with 誓 vow, 警 warn, 譬 illustrate — the upright-言 family of speech-acts. Distinct from the contracted 讠 used on the left.

Top six strokes now read as 兴 'rise, flourish' in the modern simplified form. Historically this was 與 (now 与, 'together'), supplying the yù sound. The modern look is a simplification accident — 兴 is a doublet for the cursive form of 與. The yù reading survived even though the visible shape now points to xīng.
