Both characters use the
虫 (insect) radical — a giveaway that you're looking at a bug name. The pinyin qúsōu is uncommon enough that even native speakers often can't read it cold; if you need to say 'earwig' in casual conversation,
耳夹子虫 (ěrjiāzi chóng, 'ear-pincher bug') is more recognizable.
