Pure internet slang, blew up around 2020-2021 on Weibo and Douyin. Context determines tone: most often praise ('incredibly good'), but a flat deadpan 绝了 can mean 'this is a disaster.' Part of the same family as 麻了, 服了, 笑死.

Short for 绝绝子 / 太绝了. Often written alone as a one-word reaction. 了 is the particle (neutral tone), not the verb 'finish.'
