类篇》 (Leipian) was begun in 1039 and finished in 1066, with Sima Guang (
司马光) — the same statesman-historian who compiled 《
资治通鉴》 — playing a leading role in its later stages. With 31,319 entries arranged under 540 radicals, it was a major expansion of 《
说文解字》 and a key source for later dictionaries like 《
康熙字典》.
