The 2009 H1N1 pandemic - the first declared by WHO since 1968 - brought the term 猪流感 into everyday Chinese vocabulary. The virus contained genes from swine, avian, and human flu strains, hence the name. Most affected the under-25 demographic, unlike seasonal flu.
