Yanqi (
焉耆) was one of the Han-dynasty
西域三十六国 (Thirty-Six Kingdoms of the Western Regions), known to Westerners as Karashahr. It sat on the northern Silk Road branch and produced its own Indo-European language, Tocharian A (sometimes called 'Agnean'). Today it is a Hui-ethnicity autonomous county in Bayingolin Mongol Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang.
