Tips

history
When he kept pressing 纣王 to mend his ways, the king, as the 史记 tells it, said he had heard that a sage's heart has seven openings, and had Bi Gan's heart cut out to look. Confucius named him with 微子 and 箕子 as the three humane men of the Yin.
culture
As the civil god of wealth (文财神) he is pictured as a court official in a red robe. Folk tellings explain the role by his missing heart: with no heart he has no favourites, so he deals fairly with everyone.
