林荫 most frequently appears in the compound 林荫大道 (línyīn dàdào, boulevard/avenue lined with trees), a term used for wide, tree-lined roads in cities. 林荫道 is also common. On its own, 林荫 refers to the shaded space created by a grove of trees.
