星城 is Changsha's poetic nickname. It derives from
长沙 being traditionally linked with the star
长沙星 in the
轸宿 (Yi lunar mansion) of Chinese astronomy — 'the place under the Changsha star.' Local media, tourism ads, and the Changsha metro all use
星城 as shorthand.
