Shígé sān nián, tā zhōngyú huídào le jiāxiāng.

After a lapse of three years, he finally returned to his hometown.

Shígé duō nián, liǎng rén zàicì xiāngyù.

After many years apart, the two met again.

grammar

时隔 is always followed by a time duration: 时隔三年 (after three years), 时隔半个世纪 (after half a century). It's placed at the beginning of the clause.

时隔 is more literary and formal than simply saying 过了三年 (after three years passed).
