usage
Almost always appears in fixed phrases: 情窦初开 ('the heart's window first opens') for the awakening of romantic feelings, or 情窦萌动 for the budding stirrings. Free use is rare.
history
窦 means a hole or aperture; the term traces back to the Liji 礼记 commentary by Kong Yingda, where 窦 is used metaphorically for an opening through which human emotion flows. Hence 'the window of feeling.'
