Originally served Ding Yuan, then Dong Zhuo, then Lü Bu - after Lü Bu's defeat at Xiapi he surrendered to Cao Cao and became one of his most trusted commanders. At the 215 Battle of Xiaoyaojin (逍遥津) he broke Sun Quan's 100,000-strong army with only 800 men, a feat that terrified Wu mothers into hushing crying children by invoking his name.
