Sequels keep the name and add a number: 《异形2》 is Aliens (1986). In the films and in fan talk, 异形 also names the creature itself.
mistakes
异形 (odd shape) and 异型 (non-standard type) overlap for odd-shaped industrial parts, and both spellings are seen; the film uses 形. Don't confuse either with 异性, 'the opposite sex', which differs only in the tone of its second syllable.
