A pictograph of a horned beast in profile: the topmost stroke is the single horn, the upper block the head and shoulders, the middle the body, the lower curves the legs and tail. The whole character was reanalysed in late imperial dictionaries as its own Kangxi radical (#153,
廌 — though most modern indexes collapse it under
广). The character was the original form of
豸 and a key element in the early graph of
法 (law).
