工农 is a Maoist-era political staple — the PRC flag's four small stars traditionally represent the 工农 (workers + peasants) alongside 小资产阶级 (petty bourgeoisie) and 民族资产阶级 (national bourgeoisie), all rallying around the CCP. 工农兵 (workers-peasants-soldiers) became the canonical revolutionary trinity.
