Almost always followed by a number: 娘儿俩 (mother and one other), 娘儿仨 (three women including the mother), 娘儿几个 (a few of the women). The 儿 is an erhua suffix, written but not a separate syllable in pronunciation.

Spoken, especially Northern dialects. Older or rural register; in formal writing prefer 母女 (mǔnǚ, mother and daughter) or 妇女们 (fùnǚ men, women).
