From 《南齐书·陆厥传》: 一人之思，迟速天悬；一家之文，工拙壤隔 ('one person's thought may be heavenly fast or earthly slow; one family's writing skilled or clumsy worlds apart'). 曹雪芹 reused it in 《红楼梦》 chapter 55 to describe two siblings of utterly different temperament.
usage
Equivalent to and often replaced by the more common 天差地远 / 天壤之别. 天悬地隔 has a slightly more literary feel, favored in essays and book reviews.
