汗 renders the Mongol and Turkic title khan, also written 可汗. The 大汗 was the supreme ruler of the whole Mongol Empire, above the khans of its regional states. After 成吉思汗 came 窝阔台, 贵由, 蒙哥 and 忽必烈.
mistakes
Read 汗 with a second tone here. With a fourth tone, 大汗 means 'a heavy sweat'.
