同性 by itself means 'same sex.' 同性恋 (tóngxìngliàn) specifically means 'homosexuality' or 'homosexual.' In casual speech, 同性 alone is sometimes used as shorthand for 同性恋. The opposite is 异性 (yìxìng, opposite sex).
