Tips

history
Tainan is Taiwan's oldest city and served as the island's capital for over 200 years. Founded in 1624 as the Dutch colonial outpost 热兰遮城 (Fort Zeelandia), it became Zheng Chenggong's (Koxinga) base after he expelled the Dutch in 1662, and remained the political center until the Qing moved the capital to Taipei in 1885.
