叫花子 (jiàohuāzi): beggar

Colloquial and somewhat dated; a 'beggar' word with rural/literary flavor. Modern news/formal texts prefer 乞丐 (qǐgài). The dish 叫花鸡 ('beggar's chicken' — clay-baked whole chicken) takes its name from this word, supposedly invented by a hungry beggar in Hangzhou.

mistakes

The middle character is read huā here (the same as 花 'flower'), not the often-cited huà — colloquially many speakers also say jiàohuāzǐ with neutral tone on 子.
