The full formal term — what you see on station signs and government regulations. In daily speech almost everyone shortens it to
出租车 (chūzūchē) or just
的士 (díshì, from English 'taxi' via Cantonese). In Taiwan the equivalent is
計程車 (jìchéngchē, 'meter car').
