On Japanese price tags the character for "price" is written 価, the shinjitai of 價.

history
Not a standard modern Chinese character. It is the Japanese postwar simplified (shinjitai) form of 價; mainland China simplified the same character to 价 instead. An old Chinese dictionary reading sì meaning 'to resemble' also exists but is essentially unused.
mistakes
Do not use 価 when writing Chinese — the correct simplified character is 价 (price), as in 价格.
The right side is a Japanese stylized reduction of the much busier right half of 價; it no longer maps to any meaning and is purely a simplified graphic residue.
