魔 (demon) captures its scientific genus name Moloch - the Canaanite deity demanding fiery sacrifice - while
蜥 (lizard) classifies it. The spiky body and "false head" bump on the neck (used to confuse predators) really do look demonic for a 20 cm herbivore that eats only ants.
