The Goryeo dynasty (
高丽, 918–1392) is the source of the English word 'Korea'. Founded by Wang Geon (
王建), it unified the peninsula after the fall of the Three Kingdoms. The era is famous for Goryeo celadon (
高丽青瓷) and the Tripitaka Koreana (
高丽大藏经).
高丽 is still poetically used for Korea — e.g.
高丽参 ('Korean ginseng').
