The ministers entered the palace one by one to have an audience with the emperor.
Tips
register
觐见 is formal, almost ceremonial - reserved for being received by a monarch, head of state, or other supreme authority. For an ordinary meeting use 见 (jiàn) or 拜见 (bàijiàn, to pay a formal call); 觐见 in everyday contexts sounds archaic or sarcastic.
memory
Note 觐 (jìn) shares the right side 见 (jiàn, to see) with the second character - the whole compound is literally 'audience-seeing.' The classical meaning was specifically a feudal lord seeing the Son of Heaven in autumn (秋朝曰觐).
