Tips

register
觐见 is formal, almost ceremonial - reserved for being received by a monarch, head of state, or other supreme authority. For an ordinary meeting use (jiàn) or 拜见 (bàijiàn, to pay a formal call); 觐见 in everyday contexts sounds archaic or sarcastic.
memory
Note (jìn) shares the right side (jiàn, to see) with the second character - the whole compound is literally 'audience-seeing.' The classical meaning was specifically a feudal lord seeing the Son of Heaven in autumn (秋朝曰觐).
