胡耀邦 led the rehabilitation of Cultural Revolution victims and is remembered as one of the most liberal-minded reformers in the CCP. Forced to resign in 1987 for being 'too soft' on student protests, his sudden death from a heart attack on April 15, 1989 sparked the student gatherings in Tiananmen Square that grew into the June Fourth movement.
