罐头 (guàntou, canned goods) + 起子 (qǐzi, opener / lifter) = canned-goods opener. The same 起子 element shows up in 螺丝起子 (luósīqǐzi, screwdriver) and 啤酒起子 (píjiǔqǐzi, bottle opener).
usage
Synonym 开罐器 (kāiguànqì) is more common in Mainland writing; 罐头起子 has a slightly more colloquial / Taiwan flavor.
