嫁 is only used for women marrying. Men use 娶 (qǔ). The traditional saying is 男大当婚，女大当嫁 (when a man grows up he should marry, when a woman grows up she should wed).

嫁人 can carry traditional connotations of 'marrying into' the husband's family. In modern casual speech, 结婚 (jiéhūn) is gender-neutral and more common.
