history
Created in 1901 as a reorganization of the 总理衙门 (Zongli Yamen) under pressure from the Eight-Nation Alliance after the Boxer Protocol. It was the first Qing ministry built on a modern Western model. Replaced in 1912 by the Republican-era 外交部 (Waijiaobu).
