包涵

A polite/humble formula. Almost always appears as 请多多包涵 ("please bear with [me/us]") in apologies, dinner toasts, or hosts welcoming guests. Distinct from homophone 包含 (bāohán, "to contain / include") — same pronunciation, different character (涵 vs 含) and meaning.

mistakes

Don't confuse with 包含 (bāohán, "to contain; include"). 包涵 = forgive/excuse, 包含 = contain. Same pinyin, different second character (涵 has the water radical 氵).
