Tips

history
Orphaned young and too poor to marry, he lived for more than ten years with the monk 僧祐 at the 定林寺 near 建康, helping to sort the temple's Buddhist scriptures. He finished 《文心雕龙》 around 501, later served in the household of the crown prince 萧统, and at the end of his life became a monk himself.
culture
At first no one paid his book any attention, so he waited by the road for the great writer 沈约, dressed like a peddler, and showed it to him at his carriage. Shen Yue read it, praised it highly and kept it on his desk.
