culture
Marked by 浴佛 (yùfó, 'bathing the Buddha') — pouring scented water over a small standing Buddha statue, commemorating the legend that nine dragons washed Siddhartha at birth. Also called 浴佛节 (Yùfójié) or 佛诞节 (Fódànjié).
history
Public holiday in Hong Kong (since 1999) and Macau, but not in mainland China. In Taiwan it's celebrated alongside Mother's Day in May.
