history

Launched by Deng Xiaoping in February 1979 in response to Vietnam's invasion of Cambodia and its alignment with the Soviet Union. Officially called 对越自卫反击战 (Duì Yuè Zìwèi Fǎnjī Zhàn — 'Counterattack in Self-defense Against Vietnam') in PRC sources. Border skirmishes continued throughout the 1980s.
