Tips

history
Two distinct senses, easy to confuse: (1) the modern Tokyo Bay (东京湾) where Yokohama, Chiba, and the U.S.S. Missouri's 1945 Japanese surrender ceremony all sit; (2) an older Chinese name for the Gulf of Tonkin between China and Vietnam, now standardized as 北部 (Běibùwān). Modern Chinese journalism almost always means sense (1).
