When I was little my family was poor, and we ate sweet potato porridge all year round.
Tips
usage
红苕 is the Sichuan and Chongqing word for sweet potato. Standard Mandarin says 红薯, the north often says 地瓜 and the south 番薯. The 苕 here is read sháo, not tiáo as in classical poetry.
culture
In Wuhan dialect 苕 on its own means 'silly', a common mild insult there.
