王震 led the 359 Brigade's famous land-reclamation of Nanniwan (南泥湾) during Yan'an days, then occupied Xinjiang in 1949 and founded the 新疆生产建设兵团 (Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps), the quasi-military agricultural body that still shapes Xinjiang today.
