Hindu god worshipped as the preserver of the universe, one of the three great gods with 梵天 and 湿婆. He comes to earth in ten avatars, among them 罗摩 and 黑天, known in English as Rama and Krishna.
Old Buddhist translations wrote his name by sound as 毗纽 or 韦纽, and also used his other name Narayana, 那罗延. In many Hindu lists the Buddha himself, 佛陀, is the ninth of his ten avatars.
