Jewish hero of the biblical 以斯帖记 (Book of Esther): he raises his cousin Esther, who becomes queen of Persia, and together they defeat Haman's plot to kill the Jews, the story behind Purim.
Catholic Bibles write him 摩尔德开 and call the book 《艾斯德尔传》. The plot starts when he refuses to bow to Haman, and ends with Haman hanged on the gallows he had built for Mordecai.
