Founded in 1496 by Bartholomew Columbus (brother of Christopher), Santo Domingo is the oldest continuously inhabited European-founded city in the Americas. The 圣 (saint) prefix marks the original Spanish 'Santo.'

Don't confuse with 多米尼加 (Duōmǐníjiā, 'Dominica/Dominican') — 圣多明各 is the city, the country is 多米尼加共和国.
