同济大学 (TóngjìDàxué): Tongji University (Shanghai)

Founded in 1907 as the German Medical School (德文医学堂) by German physician Erich Paulun. The name 同济 comes from the idiom 同舟共济 ('crossing the river in the same boat') and is a pun on 'Deutsch' (德/德意志). Still maintains strong German academic ties today.
