Tips

history
The 淮南子 was compiled at the court of 刘安, King of Huainan, and its first twenty chapters all end in 训 'teaching'. This one praises the Way as covering heaven and bearing up the earth, and tells how the legendary 禹 tore down city walls and burned weapons until ten thousand states came bearing jade and silk, the story behind 化干戈为玉帛. Its saying that the sage values an inch of time above a jade disc a foot across is the source of 寸阴尺璧.
usage
Not the same work as 原道, the title of 韩愈's essay and of the first chapter of 文心雕龙: those titles have no 训.
